Joe Riley

...was a helluva artist. Apparently he died this week, but I don't know what happened. He wasn't old, so I imagine whatever it was wasn't supposed to happen at this date. I hope to find out more tonight at dinner. I'm sad. Cos he was good.

Anyway, his blog is here, and he even mentioned my pathetic self on said awesome blog here. Check out his paintings and sculptures! Freakin' AMAZING.

I'm his ex-wife. He collapsed and died late Weds. night. Apparently heart related, but currently cause unknown. He was 43, 6'4", and looked healthy as a horse. I talked to him the day he died and he was very happy - job and life going well. Recent events had finally enabled him to spend a lot of time with his son, for which I will be eternally grateful. I can't believe he is gone. Found your blog looking for references/art/etc to save for our small son. He was the most phenomenal talent I ever saw. He could sculpt, paint, draw - you name it - better than anyone I ever saw, and in any medium and any style you might care to see. He specialized in Big Daddy Roth/XNO type cartoony stuff, but he could also copy the Mona Lisa stroke for stroke. Apart from my personal grief, I am appalled that such a great artist is now lost to us. I am glad his talent and life were so widely appreciated. I and the rest of his family thank you for your thoughts and prayers, but especially for the esteem in which he was held. Thank you.

Sooooooo sorry, Julie. I'm pretty ticked off that someone of his talent and who was a nice guy had to go too soon. Thank you for posting more about him!
